Tai Chi can also be known as Chinese Yoga and despite being a martial art, looks more like meditation in motion than a combat technique. According to Taoism (the philosophy from which it derives), Tai Chi deals with yin (negative, feminine) and yang (positive, masculine) energies and aims to conquer movement through stillness (or so was told by its old masters). Tai Chi is a very relaxing activity and although it can be practiced indoors, it is particularly beautiful when practiced outdoorsAs long as you know the moves you can try it everywhere but, to begin with, it is always better to have a teacher to correct and guide you.

If you are looking for a relaxing and elegant activity, Tai Chi is a very good option and Gracia has some nice places to practice it. Take a look.

Through a physical exercise program called Activa’t (meaning “Get active” in Catalan), Barcelona organizes free classes outdoors at some city gardens. Those are normally Tai Chi and QiGong classes (mixed) or hiking sessions including exercises to stimulate the brain. If you enjoy this idea and are looking for a free Tai Chi class outdoors, you can join a class in Gràcia every Tuesday, between 12h and 13h. Check the addresses here.
