Uber Is Launching A Food Delivery Service In Barcelona

In February, Uber decided to start offering a food delivery service to those in Barcelona. They did this because their taxi service was banned from being able to transport passengers in Spain in 2014.

UberEats Barcelona

This new service is called UberEats. The aim of this service is to be able to provide its customers with the best meals from the best local restaurants in less than 10 minutes. The company have chosen to set up this business so that they are able to maintain a presence in Spain. During this time they intend to continue to fight against the ruling made against them.

This ruling came about following protests by the “Madrid Taxi Association”. They claimed that Uber was unfair competition, and a judge agreed. He then ordered that the company stopped operating their taxi service in December 2014. The judge ruled that Uber “lacked the administrative authorisation to carry out the job.”

Uber already offers the same kind of food delivery service in California. As with the service in California ordering food through UberEats in Barcelona only takes a few moments. You are able to order what you want through use of their smartphone app.

Once the order has been placed they will arrange to get it delivered to you within 10 minutes and each meal costs around €10.

As one employee of the company commented:

“In the same time it takes you to walk up Las Ramblas you can open up your Uber app, choose your meal and get it delivered to an address of your choice.”

As for paying for your delivery this is easy as well. Any orders placed will be charged to the card you have registered with Uber. So you are actually using a completely cashless service.

But Uber haven’t gone it alone when it comes to the setting up of this service. They are working in conjunction with a food recommendation service known as Plateselector. It is with them that they decide just which restaurants it is they work with. Between these two companies they are hoping to create something original.

They also want to create a more unique experience for their clientele when it comes to having food delivered to their homes. Plus they are looking to ensure that they use only restaurants that offer good service and great tasting food.

If their taxi service is anything to go by then this new food delivery service is sure to be a huge hit. For many who live in Barcelona a service such as UberEats will prove a huge hit. No longer will they need to search draws for takeaway menus. They just need to open up the UberEats app and select the food they want.
