Ultimate gourmet tapas experience for passionate foodies

When staying in Barcelona, enjoying delicious tapas will become at least a weekly routine. If you wish to take the experience up a notch (or one hundred), Sensi Tapas is the ultimate restaurant to celebrate a special occasion or a pure hedonistic love for excellent food.

Set in an unsuspecting but beautiful street within the romantic Gothic Quarter, Sensi stands out as you pass by, boasting a cozy candlelit ambiance and an intriguing electric energy pouring out from within into the street. On the chalkboard menu, you will find many of the usual tapas and twice as many unusual gourmet options.

What To Order?

Some personal highlights and recommendations I would make would be; the duck timbale with parmesan potatoes and Pedro Ximénez reduction – a small entrée version of perfectly succulent and rich duck shredded into creamy, moist potatoes, topped off with the most exquisite sauce reduction which could be likened to a sweet balsamic dressing. The duck is a great size to share between four for a taste of what should be Michelin starred food. Secondly, the creamy truffle ravioli. It is rare to come across somebody who is not in love with truffle once they have tasted it, and this dish is an absolutely sensational way to show off truffle at its very best.

Lastly, the seasonal tapas, which change on a daily basis using local and seasonal produce. Of particular note, the unearthly moist chicken, spinach and wild mushroom roulade with a creamy sauce that you are likely to hope to recreate at home.

If you happen to fancy something a little different, Sensi also offers a broad selection of oriental tapas which are equally as delectable as the rest of the menu.

Exceptional Service and Ambience

Aside from the truly sensational food, the service is impeccable. The waiters are genuinely passionate and knowledgeable about every dish and every wine, and make recommendations for your pleasure rather than for their profit. The pacing of the tapas is perfected, to allow you to dine comfortably and discuss and savour each exciting flavour in a complementary order. The staff keeps an eye on your wine and bread, topping you up appropriately and without interference. It feels as though you are being treated as royalty with warm and understated service – every whim is catered for.

Top Quality Wine

If the food and the service are not enough alone, the wine at Sensi Tapas is unbeatable. Every bottle appears carefully chosen to suit the flavours you are enjoying, and at affordable restaurant prices. You cannot go without trying the Montgarnatx Priorat, a Catalonian red. It is the smoothest, deepest, most delicious and meaty red I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. It is assured that it will blow you away and leave your taste buds nostalgic with memories of the rich mellow flavour.

While this restaurant is slightly higher end, it is certainly affordable, especially when the immense quality is considered. If you are able to limit yourself to one bottle of wine between two then the bill should not leave you empty pocketed. That being said, a visit to Sensi Tapas is truly a one-off experience and you should indulge fully in the occasion.

Sensi Tapas can be found at Carrer Ample 26, 08002. The restaurant is open from 6:30 pm to 12 am. I would advise booking as the restaurant is always full of lucky diners having a truly fantastic evening.
