Upcoming Running Events in Barcelona

16-year old Ashley

I became a runner in high school. My dad came up with the bright idea. He wanted me to join the cross country team to condition for football (aka soccer—for the Americans out there). Football tryouts came-and-went that year, and I could not trade in my sneakers for cleats. I was addicted to the self-reflecting, meditation feeling long-distance running gave me. That feeling where your legs are pushing forward toward the destination while your mind is focused on the steady pace of your breath. It is you against yourself. I was forever hooked —thanks Dad!

Today, wherever I travel I pack my running shoes. I use running as a means of exploring a new city, staying in shape (without having to pay for a gym membership), or meeting like-minded runners. As soon as I moved to Barcelona, I took to the internet to find running groups and upcoming 2016 running events

Here are the upcoming running events in 2016:

April 9th. 10h. Cros Muntanya Con Caralleu

Can Caralleu is putting together its 16th annual Croc Muntaya Con Caralleu. You can register to run a 7.5k or for those who dare, 15k. The race is on uneven ground, with natural obstacles and steep slopes.  For the fourth consecutive year, they will also be offering a special course for kids. The race starts at 10 am. Please note it is a bit out of the way, so plan accordingly. The scenery is worth the trip.

April 16th. 21h.  Cursa Nocturna Sport Ciutat de L’Hospitalet

This year marks the seventh annual Curse Nocturna Sport Ciutat de L’Hospitalet. This is an exciting evening run for those night owls who prefer to run in the dark. You can register to run a 5k or a 10k. Also, when registering you can opt to donate a euro toward breast cancer research. The race begins at 21h (9 PM) – 23h. Enjoy the cool night weather!

April 17th. 9:30h. Salomon Run

The Salomon is a 10k run that takes you through the most symbolic spots of Montjuic. You will run up and down the hills and stairs of this beautiful park. You will feel as if you are running amongst the clouds. The event starts at 9:30 am. You won’t want to miss it!

May 29 10h 4th 5k Fun Run Masnou

Club Sansi, in collaboration with the City Council and the Masnou Marina, has once again come together to create the 4th annual Curse Popular del Masnou. A flat route along the seafront of Masnou calls for a new personal record. They are expecting about 800 people, so do not wait to register. The race starts at 10 am in front of the Yacht Club.

Runner.es is a great site to find out about future running events. Stay posted!

Runners Barcelona: Dig through the page a bit and you will find some great events.

Barcelona is a beautiful city, filled with so much to see, it is perfect for runners of all levels. Enjoy your run!
