Barcelona is a cosmopolitan city whose streets are filled with life, color and excitement. From the smallest alleys to the largest avenues, walking streets in Barcelona offer dozens of paths to explore and hundreds of stories to discover.

Las Ramblas

Commonly referred to as “Las Ramblas”, La Rambla is one of the most touristic avenues  in the city. Walking on La Rambla towards the port, you will cross paths with a variety of artists and performers, like human statues, painters and caricaturists.

You will also have the opportunity to visit a variety of businesses like souvenir shops, clothes stores, flower markets and ice cream booths. There are several interesting spots in La Rambla where you should stop and take a closer look.

The main ones are Centre de la Imatge, a three hundred year old palace that works today as a cultural center; Mercado de la Boqueria, a historic market that offers stunning views and delicious tastes; Gran Teatre del Liceu, one of the best opera houses in Europe; and Plaça Reial, a charming square where you can stop for a good meal.

Passeig de Gràcia

One of the most beautiful streets of Barcelona, Passeig de Gràcia is famous for its high-end shops and its awe-inspiring architecture. Walking on this glamorous street you will find names like Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton and Prada, inviting you in for a fabulous shopping experience.

If you are a bigger fan of culture than you are of shopping, walk up to the point where Passeig de Gràcia meets Consell de Cent.

The first noteworthy construction you will find is Casa Lleó i Morera, a modernist building created by architect Lluís Domènech I Montaner and built by a group of famous Spanish sculptors.

Casa Amatler is another fascinating building, only a couple of steps away. Designed by architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch , Casa Amatler is a great example of the Spanish modernist movement.

The most famous one of the three, Casa Batlló is one of the many works by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. Full of colors, textures and innovative shapes, Casa Batlló was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005.

Rambla de Catalunya

Connecting Plaça de Catalunya with Avenida Diagonal, Rambla de Catalunya is a pleasant promenade where visitors can go for a stroll, sit for a coffee or go shopping.

The Rambla is also home to several gorgeous buildings like Casa Serra, by Josep Puig i Cadafalch, Casa Fargas, by Enric Sagnier i Villacecchia, Casa Juncosa by Salvador Vinyals i Sabate; and two amusing animal statues by Josep Granyer: Jirafa Coqueta and Meditació.
