What to do in Barcelona this weekend?

Leisure activities in Barcelona are endless, but, sometimes, too many cultural, musical, cinematographic or gastronomic events can lead to our misinformation or passivity. In order to don’t end up staying at home under the rug and to avoid the tedium of winter we suggest some specific options for this weekend.

Bargelona: after the success of this ice rink installed in the middle of the Plaza de Catalunya last year, it opens its doors from November the 21st to January the 6th. For a small fee you can spin around this track until your legs hurt. An excellent choice of entertainment suitable for all ages, although somewhat controversial because it involves the use of a central square as iconic as this for the locals. If you’re an experienced skater you must be careful if you decide to put on your skates over the weekend, but if you are still learning, BarGelona is an excellent track for practicing quietly.

L’Alternativa: This independent film festival celebrates its 19th birthday honouring the French actress Jeanne Balibar and the Portuguese director Pedro Costa. Screenings began this last Tuesday in the Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) but its best films are showed this weekend with oeuvres like Ne change rien (Pedro Costa), Vete a saber (Rivette), Emak Bakia (Oskar Alegria) or Nana (Valérie Massadian). Up to 130 alternative films in 6 days, less than the previous year due to the financial crisis, 30 of which will compete in the festival’s Official Selection.

Fleadonia: after two editions of this monthly second hand market promoted by the Association Freedonia, here goes the third edition of this flea market in the Raval. Next Sunday 25th from 11am to 8pm in Lleialtat street, between the Carretas street and the Sant Pau street, those who have booked their space may sell their handmade pieces, clothes and second-hand goods, works of art of all disciplines, etc. To liven up the event they will feature DJ’s, performances and cheap mojitos.

Festival El Més Petit de Tots: This children performing arts’ festival has already started its program which will end on Sunday 25th at the Mercat de les Flors. Plays and performances for children from 0 to 5 years will also take place in other catalan towns as Sabadell, Reus, Olot or Lerida, and Benicassim, in Valencia. An ideal choice to stimulate the creativity of the younger members of the family, particularly open to sensorial stimuli.

Citizens!: If you want to enjoy a good concert tonight in a excellent stage as is the Razzmatazz Razzclub room, don’t hesitate and buy a ticket to see Citizens! This London-based quintet amazes us again with their debut album Here We Are, which will make you dance non-stop with a bunch of great songs like True Romance. Back in March became clear that this is one of the most awaited music band by the Catalan audience as the Razzmatazz’s Pop Bar room was packed. This time they go for the largest room and hope to see you all there. Buy your ticket.

BCN&CAKE: This “sweet” event is the first baking fair in Barcelona and will take place at the Fira de Barcelona on November the 24th and the 25th (Saturday and Sunday). The BCN & CAKE becomes a meeting point for the bakery brightest minds of our times, as well as for shops, schools, bakeries, producers, bloggers, raw material sellers and packaging designers. Tickets are very affordable for any budget but if you decide to attend, you can have fun and learn in the free activities offered by this event, such as workshops: pastry decoration, stencil in a cookie, cake tasting, cupcakes preparation, etc.. A perfect activity for the sweet tooth.
