Where to Watch the Super Bowl in Barcelona

You’ve arrived. You’ve sorted your accommodation. You’ve picked out a few restaurants to visit. What you’ve forgotten is the fact that it’s nearly the first weekend in February and you have no idea where to watch the Super Bowl in Barcelona–a city where “football Americano” is about as rare as free tapas In fact, you’re far more likely to accidentally stumble into a sports bar showing the latest from La Liga or the English Premiership than you would be to find a Catalonian who can tell you the names of the two teams playing in the Super Bowl this year.

Still, while there’s little to no affinity for American football in this part of the world, there are several sports bars in Barcelona that show the Super Bowl live. Here’s ShBarcelona’s list on where to watch Super Bowl 50 in Barcelona.

Flaherty’s Irish Pub

Sports bar BarcelonaSports bar BarcelonaVery big and fully stocked with everything you need to enjoy the game, Flaherty’s does it right. A small fleet of seven HD TVs and two huge projectors keep you tucked into the game while the wait staff keeps you filled with one of their many beers and a wide range of pub dishes. Reserve a table or get there early to avoid being crushed at the bar. They’ll be staying open until three for Super Bowl fans to either celebrate a victory or drown in the pain of a loss.

Sonora Sports Tavern

Interesting for its over-the-top amount of sporting memorabilia on the wall, Sonora feels somewhat like a slightly mature version of your typical American college bar: there’s always shots going around, but the beer selection is much better. They’ll be staying open late this year to show the Super Bowl and we recommend getting a table near the main projector for the best view of the game. Expect a generally younger crowd and a healthy dose of international students.

The George Payne

They’ve taken great care to make sure there isn’t a bad seat in the house at this Irish pub, making it one of the best sports bars in Barcelona. Their TVs are positioned so there’s always one on view, anywhere in the two-story pub. Early planners will want to take advantage of the booths upstairs that have their own private HD screen (available upon reservation) for groups of six or more and George Payne’s army of wait staff is attentive and doesn’t mind giving recommendations from their beer list. Get there before kick-off. The place fills up fast, and once the game starts, there’s little chance of you finding a table.
